The MABS program combines biomedical and clinical sciences with emerging areas such as medical and healthcare artificial intelligence, health technology and regulatory affairs.

The fully online program emphasizes applied learning, career readiness and collaboration across healthcare, science and technology. Students also complete an internship and capstone project aligned with their area of study.

Students following the full-time course sequence can complete the program in approximately one year.

Students may also complete the program part time. Part-time students will take fewer courses each semester and follow a longer, more individualized timeline.

Yes. The academic courses are offered completely online in an asynchronous format, meaning students do not need to attend class at a specific day or time.

Courses are organized into weekly modules that may include:

  • Discussion activities
  • Group projects
Students must complete each module before advancing to the next. Faculty will also offer virtual office hours at multiple times to support students with different work schedules.

After completing the core curriculum, students select one of four tracks:

  • Clinical Sciences
  • Regulatory Affairs
  • Medical and Healthcare Artificial Intelligence
  • Health Technology

Each track includes 12 credit hours of specialized coursework, followed by an internship and capstone project related to that area.

Students must complete all requirements for their selected track to graduate. However, students may take additional courses from another track or potentially complete more than one track.

Taking courses beyond the required degree plan may extend the time needed to complete the program and could result in additional tuition and fees.

The core curriculum also introduces concepts from across the program, including biomedical data, artificial intelligence and clinical applications. Students may find that the core courses provide sufficient exposure to related areas outside their selected track.

Yes. Students may enroll part time, including taking approximately two courses, or six credit hours, per semester.

Students must complete the core courses before advancing to track-specific coursework. Because course availability may vary by semester, part-time students should work with the program to develop an appropriate degree plan.

Students must complete an internship of at least 300 hours. The internship must align with the student’s selected track and provide an opportunity to apply concepts learned through the program.

Students will also complete a capstone project connected to their internship experience and present the completed project to the program.

The program is developing internship opportunities through academic, healthcare and industry collaborations. Available opportunities will depend on the student’s track, professional interests, location and the projects offered by participating organizations.

Because partner projects and organizational needs can change, specific internship opportunities may vary from year to year.

Some remote internship opportunities may be available, particularly within the Medical and Healthcare Artificial Intelligence track.

However, not every internship can be completed remotely. Certain clinical sciences, regulatory affairs, laboratory or healthcare data projects may require students to work onsite.

Internship format will depend on the track, the host organization and the nature of the project.

Potentially. Students who are already working in healthcare, research, biotechnology or a related field may be able to complete an internship project through their current employer.

The proposed experience must:

  • Align with the student’s selected track
  • Meet the program’s internship requirements
  • Include appropriate supervision and mentorship
  • Allow the program to verify the student’s work and progress
  • Lead to an appropriate capstone project and presentation

Each proposed workplace-based internship will be reviewed individually.

Students will receive support from program faculty, an internship coordinator and industry professionals serving as professors of practice.

Mentors may include healthcare executives, clinical professionals, regulatory science specialists and biotechnology or technology professionals, depending on the student’s track and project.

Students completing an internship through their employer may also work with a workplace mentor. The program will coordinate with that individual to confirm expectations, monitor progress and verify completion of the internship and capstone requirements.

Yes. Students are encouraged to develop projects that may be suitable for presentation at professional or academic conferences.

Limited funding may be available through the program or university to help students present eligible projects. Projects must be sufficiently developed and approved by the program before being presented on behalf of the university.

Yes. The program was designed in part for professionals who want to expand their knowledge of emerging healthcare technologies while continuing to work.

Its asynchronous online format and part-time enrollment option allow students to complete coursework around professional responsibilities. Students may also be able to connect their current work to the internship and capstone requirements.

Any of the four tracks may strengthen a student’s preparation by demonstrating success in graduate-level study and providing experience in an emerging area of healthcare.

Students should select the track that best aligns with their interests, experiences and long-term goals. Completing the program does not replace other medical school admissions requirements, and students should continue to build a strong overall application.

Unofficial transcripts may be accepted during the initial review process. Students who are admitted will be required to provide official transcripts from the institutions where they earned their degrees.

No. Admissions decisions are currently based on the completed application and review by the program’s admissions committee.
